The November "Get Out And Vote" Campaign for this November's Statewide Elections

Legal/Legislative Committee

Did you know that only 2.45 million votes were cast in 2009 for the statewide general election - only 47% of the almost 5.2 million registered voters? More than 5 people in NJ let the 4+ others make the decisions that all 10 have to live with!

That means a minority of New Jersey citizens who have registered to vote (and not everyone is registered!) are deciding the outcome of the elections and determining who is going to represent us in state government and make decisions that affect not only our future but also the future of our children.

"People often say that, in a democracy, decisions are made by a majority of the people. Of course, that is not true. Decisions are made by a majority of those who make themselves heard and who vote -- a very different thing." ~ Walter H. Judd

Staffing NJ PAC and the Legal/Legislative Committee of the New Jersey Staffing Alliance does not believe this should be acceptable to anyone.

One of the few precious rights we each have as citizens of the United States is our right to vote! We must encourage and maximize voter participation in the November's general election.

For an industry whose focus is on the people of New Jersey and their future employment, we should care about making sure we encourage their involvement in government - starting with increasing the level of voter participation.

We can't take on the whole state but we can certainly focus on an objective that every employee of a New Jersey staffing firm (owner, manager, recruiter, administrative staff, AND temporary/contract employee!!) needs to vote on November 8th, 2011!

We have to start somewhere! Think how powerful that would be!

Click here to find out how you and your staffing firm can encourage everyone in your firm to get out to vote on November 8th.

Strategic Job Growth Plan

Acting on a commitment to grow New Jersey's economy, create Jersey Jobs and organize government to meet the state's long term economic development goals in a common sense and sustainable manner, Governor Christie presented last week the State Strategic Job Growth Plan.

This plan provides practical goals and guidelines to strengthen Governor Christie's job creation efforts in a long-term and sustainable manner including the following:

  • Targeting Economic Growth by identifying and promoting growth in regions of the state with clusters of critical or emerging industries that will be drivers of strong economic growth. These centers, known as Regional Innovation Clusters, are well-positioned for job creation and economic development based on existing infrastructure, educational, intellectual and workforce resources. Examples include regions supporting Bio/Pharma and Life Sciences, Finance, Manufacturing, Technology, Health Care, and the emerging Solar and Offshore Wind industries.
  • Effective Planning for "Vibrant Regions" in New Jersey, includes areas designated as "Priority Growth Investment Areas" through a criteria-based identification process, in order to grow and promote communities with access to quality education, housing, public transportation and infrastructure, parks and recreation.
  • Preserve and Enhance Critical State Resources through continued support for New Jersey's preservation programs and balanced state, regional and municipal planning that properly considers transportation, energy, water supply, water quality and air management needs now and in the future.
  • Tactical Alignment of State Government through strong Executive Branch leadership overseeing implementation of the strategic plan through the creation of a State Strategic Job Growth Plan Steering Committee.
Temp Revenue Up 14%; Growth Slows
AHQ

Temporary staffing revenue rose 14 percent in September, showing widespread improvement, but its rate of growth slowed, according to Staffing Industry Analysts' monthly Pulse Survey released today.

The direct hire and temp-to-hire segments also recorded revenue growth of 29 percent and 23 percent, respectively, in September.

"Growth in temporary staffing has decelerated from early 2011 peak levels, while direct hire and temp-to-hire remain remarkably strong," said Staffing Industry Analysts' Research Analyst Dan Begley-Groth. "Within temp staffing, the commercial sector is maintaining 10 percent to 15 percent year-over-year growth while the professional sectors vary greatly by segment. The outlook is brightest within travel nursing, while finance/accounting and legal staffing are rapidly losing steam. The staffing industry is demonstrating more bullishness lately overall."

Acquisitions continued to tick up in September after decelerating over 2011. Respondents to the Pulse Survey reported 12 acquisitions in the third quarter, up from one in the second quarter and eight in the first quarter.

The Pulse Survey includes responses from 164 staffing firms.
